The World Maritime University Library boasts a diverse and extensive collection, encompassing over 20,000 books, journals, reports, and documents sourced from IMO and other UN agencies. Among its notable strengths is a particularly robust assortment in Maritime Law and Law of the Sea. However, the library's offerings extend far beyond its print materials.

Through its online collection of ebooks, e-journals, and statistical databases, the library opens the doors to over 400 thousand titles, enriching the learning and research experiences of faculty and students alike. Furthermore, WMU's dissertations, research reports, and conference presentations find a home on Maritime Commons, the library's digital publications platform established in August 2015. By the end of 2022, nearly 4,000 works were successfully uploaded, garnering over 2.5 million downloads from researchers in 234 countries and territories worldwide.

In addition to its extensive resources, the library offers a welcoming and conducive environment for reading and studying. Equipped with state-of-the-art scanning equipment and loanable laptops, it empowers users with modern library research techniques. The library also offers valuable classroom instruction, enhancing the information-seeking skills of its patrons.

University Housing

World Maritime University (WMU) Housing Offering:

• WMU provides student accommodation at the Henrik Smith Residence.
• The residence is managed by on-site staff and offers rooms at a rent of approximately SEK 5,200 per month (2021 figure).
• All WMU students can be accommodated on one site, although during the First Term, some students may need to share a room or be temporarily accommodated in alternative housing until the senior class graduates and departs.
• The Henrik Smith Residence is conveniently located less than three kilometers from the main University building and is easily accessible by a short walk or bus-ride to the center of Malmö.
• The Residence offers a range of facilities, including a lounge area for social meetings or group work, study rooms, facilities for playing pool and table-tennis, a sauna, laundry facilities, and indoor storage space for bicycles.

Sport Facilities/Activities

Financial Aid

World Maritime University offers the following financial aids to students:

• One third of students are funded by their own companies, governments, or national funding agencies. Sponsors can choose whether to make the all-inclusive payment or to pay just the University fee to WMU and then make payments directly to the student to cover living expenses.
• Fellowships granted via WMU by international donors for students who cannot secure funding in their home countries. The majority of these fellowships cover the full costs of studying at the University, including the University fee, accommodation at the residence, a monthly living allowance, and an air ticket home after graduation. Others cover only the University fee. However, there is very limited donor support for the ESSP.

The distance learning programs offered by WMU encompass a combination of academic theory and business practices, with delivery provided directly by the University or in partnership with prominent maritime training and education providers such as Lloyd's Maritime Academy (LMA) and DNV GL Maritime Academy. The knowledge gained through these programs can be readily applied to the professional environment, and the curriculum is continually updated to align with evolving educational requirements in the maritime industry. The current program portfolio covers a wide range of topics relevant to the industry, and each program awards European credits (under the ECTS) that can potentially be transferred to other universities' programs.
