Originally established in 1918, the Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego or the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, is a government ministry in Poland that is responsible for the country's cultural policy, preservation of national heritage and development of the cultural sector. While the Ministry does not have a direct role in higher education, it does oversee the cultural institutions that are often associated with universities, such as museums, libraries and galleries. The Ministry also provides funding for cultural and educational programs, including those that take place in universities and other higher education institutions.
