Founded in 1833, the Universidad de la República (University of the Republic) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Montevideo (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). This institution also has branch campuses in Salto, Paysandú, Tacuarembó, Rivera, Maldonado, Rocha, Cerro Largo and Treinta y Tres.
