Established in 2016, the Ministry of Higher Education of Zambia is the government ministry responsible for overseeing and regulating higher education in Zambia. Its mission is to develop and promote high-quality tertiary education and research, foster innovation and entrepreneurship and enhance the skills and capabilities of the Zambian workforce.
The ministry is responsible for formulating policies, strategies and plans for higher education in Zambia. It also regulates and monitors the quality of higher education institutions and programs in the country, ensures that they are aligned with the needs of the labor market and promotes internationalization and collaboration with institutions abroad.
In addition, the ministry provides financial support and scholarships to Zambian students to study abroad, promotes scientific research and development and supports the transfer of technology and knowledge from academia to industry.
The ministry plays a key role in Zambia's efforts to develop a knowledge-based economy and to build a skilled and educated workforce that can contribute to the country's sustainable development. It collaborates with universities and other higher education institutions in the country to ensure that they provide relevant and quality education that meets the needs of the Zambian society.
