Liaison Committee on Medical Education

Overview

Established in 1942, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is an accrediting body for medical education programs leading to the MD degree in the United States and Canada. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The LCME sets standards for medical education programs and evaluates them to ensure that they meet these standards. Accreditation by the LCME is a requirement for medical schools to be eligible for certain federal funding and for graduates to be eligible for licensure in the United States.
