Overview
Established in 1969 and officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is an independent non-profit organization responsible for the national institutional accreditation of private, postsecondary institutions in the United States offering predominantly allied health education programs leading to a certificate, diploma and degrees at the level of the Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Occupational Science, Academic Associate, Baccalaureate and Master.
ABHES's purpose is also to provide programmatic accreditation of a wide range of health education programs, including medical assisting, dental assisting, pharmacy technician, surgical technology, nursing and many others including those offered via distance education.
The ABHES accreditation process involves a comprehensive evaluation of each program's educational quality, curriculum, faculty qualifications, student services and institutional resources. The accreditation standards are designed to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for successful careers in the healthcare industry.
