Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications

Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications

Overview

Established in 1945, the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) is an international agency responsible for the evaluation of professional journalism and mass communications programs in colleges and universities mainly located in the United States. ACEJMC's member associations include the American Advertising Federation, the American Press Institute, the Arthur W. Page Society, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the News Leaders Association, the Public Relations Society of America Inc., the Radio-Television Digital News Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, the American Journalism Historians Association, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Broadcast Education Association.

ACEJMC's mission is to promote excellence in journalism and mass communication education and training and to ensure that graduates of accredited programs are well-prepared for careers in the media industry. ACEJMC sets standards for educational quality and institutional effectiveness and evaluates programs against those standards.
The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications accredits programs in journalism, mass communication and strategic communication at the undergraduate and graduate levels. ACEJMC accreditation is voluntary but is often a requirement for employment in the media industry.

In addition to accreditation, the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications also provides support and resources to its accredited programs, including professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, access to educational research and best practices and advocacy on behalf of journalism and mass communication education.
