Founded in 1982, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) is a specialized and not for profit accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) that accredits professional non-degree and graduate degree programs, including professional master's and doctoral degree programs in acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
ACAHM's mission is to promote excellence in acupuncture and Oriental medicine education and training and to ensure that graduates of accredited programs are well-prepared to provide safe and effective healthcare services. The Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine sets standards for educational quality and institutional effectiveness and evaluates programs against those standards.
ACAHM accreditation is voluntary, but is often a requirement for licensure and credentialing in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
In addition to accreditation, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine also provides support and resources to its accredited programs, including professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, access to educational research and best practices and advocacy on behalf of the acupuncture and herbal medicine profession.
