Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education

Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education

Overview

The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) is a non-profit organization that accredits professional and post-professional athletic training education programs in the United States. The CAATE was established in 1991 to ensure that athletic training students receive quality education that prepares them for professional practice.

The CAATE's accreditation process evaluates athletic training programs based on a set of standards that cover areas such as curriculum, faculty qualifications, clinical education and resources. Programs seeking accreditation must demonstrate compliance with these standards and submit regular reports to the CAATE to maintain accreditation status.

Accreditation by the CAATE is a voluntary process, but it is highly valued by students, employers and athletic training organizations. Accredited programs provide students with a strong foundation in athletic training knowledge and skills, as well as the clinical experience necessary for professional practice. Accreditation also ensures that graduates are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination, which is required to become a certified athletic trainer (ATC).

The CAATE plays an important role in the advancement of the athletic training profession by promoting excellence in education and preparing the next generation of ATCs. By ensuring that athletic training education programs meet high standards of quality and relevance, the CAATE is helping to improve patient care and athletic performance, as well as the overall health and safety of athletes and physically active individuals.
