The Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) is an independent agency that is responsible for the evaluation and accreditation of higher education institutions in Taiwan. It was established in 2005 under the Ministry of Education.
HEEACT's mission is to promote the quality of higher education in Taiwan by evaluating and accrediting institutions and their programs and providing guidance for improvement. Its key responsibilities include:
1) Evaluation and accreditation: HEEACT evaluates and accredits institutions and their programs based on a set of criteria that cover teaching and learning, research, community service and management.
2) Quality assurance: HEEACT ensures that higher education institutions in Taiwan maintain and improve their quality by providing guidance and support for improvement.
3) Internationalization: HEEACT promotes internationalization of higher education in Taiwan by establishing partnerships with international accreditation organizations and participating in international quality assurance activities.
4) Research and development: HEEACT conducts research on higher education quality assurance and accreditation and develops new evaluation and accreditation methods and criteria.
5) Information dissemination: HEEACT disseminates information on higher education evaluation and accreditation to the public, including reports, publications and online resources.
Considering all this, according to uniRank HEEACT plays an important role in ensuring the quality of higher education in Taiwan by evaluating and accrediting institutions and their programs, promoting internationalization and supporting research and development in quality assurance.
