Founded in 1979, the Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria is a government ministry in Nigeria responsible for the coordination and management of education policies, programs and activities in the country. The ministry oversees all levels of education in Nigeria, including primary, secondary and tertiary education.
Some of the key functions of the Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria include the formulation of policies and guidelines for the development of education in Nigeria, the coordination and implementation of educational programs, the regulation of educational institutions and activities, the promotion of quality assurance in education and the development of human resources in the education sector.
The ministry is headed by a Minister who is appointed by the President of Nigeria and assisted by a Permanent Secretary who oversees the administrative activities of the ministry. The Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria also has several agencies, including the National Universities Commission, the National Board for Technical Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission, among others, which assist in the implementation of education policies and programs in Nigeria.
