The MOE is responsible for all levels of education, from preschool to tertiary education and its policies cover areas such as curriculum development, teacher training and school administration. It also oversees the distribution of educational resources and funding to schools and educational institutions across the country.

One of the key priorities of the MOE is to improve the quality of education in South Korea. To achieve this, it has implemented a number of initiatives and reforms, such as the introduction of a new national curriculum and a focus on developing students' creativity and problem-solving skills. The MOE also places a strong emphasis on teacher training and development, including ongoing professional development programs.

The MOE is also responsible for promoting international cooperation and exchange in education. It works closely with foreign governments and educational organizations to develop joint programs and initiatives and to facilitate the exchange of students and teachers between South Korea and other countries.
