Overview

The Community of the Mediterranean Universities (CMU) is an organization that brings together universities from countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 1991, the CMU aims to promote cooperation and exchange between universities in the region, as well as to contribute to the development of higher education in the Mediterranean area.

The CMU currently has over 100 member universities from 23 countries, including Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey, among others. The organization is based in Barcelona, Spain and has a secretariat that coordinates its activities and initiatives.

One of the main roles of the CMU is to foster academic and scientific cooperation between its member universities. This is achieved through various programs and initiatives, such as student and staff mobility programs, joint research projects and academic conferences and seminars. The CMU also promotes the exchange of knowledge and expertise in various fields, including science, technology, humanities and social sciences.
