League of Islamic Universities

League of Islamic Universities

Overview

The League of Islamic Universities (LIU) is a regional organization established in 1969 with the aim of promoting cooperation and collaboration among Islamic universities and educational institutions in different countries. The LIU headquarters is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and its membership includes universities from various Muslim countries.

The LIU focuses on several areas, including facilitating exchange programs and academic cooperation among its member universities, organizing joint research projects and conferences and promoting Islamic values and teachings in higher education.

While the LIU has faced criticism in the past for allegedly promoting a conservative and narrow interpretation of Islam, the organization has also been praised for its efforts to improve the quality of education in member universities and to promote greater understanding and cooperation among Muslim scholars and institutions.
