Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission

The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC) is an independent organization that is responsible for ensuring the quality and accessibility of higher education in the Maritime provinces of Canada, which include New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

The MPHEC was established in 1974 through an agreement between the three Maritime provinces. Its mandate is to promote cooperation and coordination among higher education institutions in the region and to ensure that these institutions meet high standards of quality in their academic programs, research activities and student services.

The MPHEC's responsibilities include conducting program reviews and evaluations of higher education institutions in the region, accrediting new programs and institutions, providing advice and recommendations to government and other stakeholders on matters related to higher education policy and funding and promoting access to higher education for underrepresented groups.

The MPHEC also provides various services and resources to students and institutions, such as information on funding opportunities, academic program offerings and student support services. The MPHEC aims to support the development of a strong and vibrant higher education sector in the Maritime provinces, which can contribute to the economic and social well-being of the region.
