U Sports

Overview

U Sports is the national governing body for university sports in Canada. It was established in 1961 as the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) and was later renamed as Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) before being rebranded as U Sports in 2016.

U Sports oversees the organization and regulation of university sports across Canada, including championships and competitions in a wide range of sports, such as basketball, football, hockey, soccer, volleyball and others. It also sets standards for eligibility and competition and works to promote and develop university sports across the country.

In addition to its role in organizing and regulating university sports, U Sports also promotes and supports student-athlete development, health and safety and academic excellence. It works to ensure that university sports in Canada are aligned with the principles of fair play, sportsmanship and respect for diversity and inclusion.

Considering all this, according to uniRank U Sports plays a key role in promoting and supporting university sports in Canada and helping to develop the next generation of athletes, coaches and leaders.
